Sei Crypto Getting Started Guide (How to Get $SEI coins, Native Wallets, NFT Marketplaces, DEX’s and Resources)

Sei has seen tremendous growth in the short time since it’s inception in August of 2023.  It’s a Cosmos based layer 1 blockchain that already has a thriving NFT community as well as a growing DeFi ecosystem.  Sei V1 has taken the crypto world by storm due to it’s amazing speed, low fees, and scalability.

Sei V2 (coming in 2024) is set to become the first parallelized EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) blockchain making it easy for any ETH application to deploy on Sei.  It will also be frictionless for Ethereum users to crossover to Sei as MetaMask and other ETH native tools will be supported.  In other words, it will be easy for Ethereum developers to build on Sei because they don’t have to learn a new langue.  Likewise, Ethereum users can use Sei applications without jumping through any new wallet or bridging hoops.  Those two innovations in conjunction with speed and low fees make Sei crypto a formidable layer 1 blockchain for the foreseeable future.Sei V2 parallelized EVM blockchain.

It’s always good to be early in crypto especially with layer 1 blockchains like Sei, Sui, Fantom, and Avalanche.  In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to jump into the Sei ecosystem and get your hands dirty.  Make sure to scroll to the bottom to watch our step-by-step video guide to getting started in Sei.

Step 1: Create a Compass Wallet for SeiSei native Compass wallet

Compass is a user-friendly native Sei wallet that’s easy to install as a Chrome browser extension.  It works well with all the current SEI NFT marketplaces and DeFi applications.  Simply go to Compass Wallet on X and you’ll find the download link.

Step 2: Acquire $SEI TokensBuy $SEI on Coinbase.

Now that you have a Compass wallet setup, the next step is to get some $SEI.  Simply buying $SEI on Coinbase is the easiest way to acquire the token.  However, other options to get $SEI include using the Sei 3rd Party Bridge and/or the RocketX exchange.  In terms of ease / user-experience, I would lean toward RocketX.  It make it pretty easy to convert $ETH (or many other crypto coins) for $SEI.

Step 3: Send $SEI to your Compass wallet

Once you have some $SEI crypto, send it to your Compass wallet.  If you purchased $SEI via Coinbase, do the following…  Click “Transfer” and then click “Send Crypto”.  Select Sei and then paste your Compass Wallet Receive Address in the “To” field.  Click on “Preview Send” and then send the $SEI to your Compass wallet.Send $SEI from Coinbase to your Compass wallet.

Make sure to follow SEI on X to learn more about Sei V2 and what parallelizing the Ethereum execution environment means for the Web3 ecosystem.  Some other really good Twitter follows to learn more about the Sei Network include; @cooltime (Hosts daily SEI Twitter Spaces), @jayendra_job (co-founder Sei Labs), @jeffdfeng (co-founder), @sei_hub (news & updates).

Sei is often compared to Solana and Fantom because of it’s speed and low transaction cost.  However, the main difference is that by utilizing the EVM, Sei network gains easy access to Ethereum developers.  ETH developers gain access to Solana like speed and low transactions, without having to learn a new programming language.  In the end, it’s the users that benefit most.

The Sei founders have a clear and simple mission…. Create the best possible crypto trading experience.  Sei is definitely a blockchain to watch close in 2024 and beyond.  Now is a great time to jump in as it’s still in the early stages.  We’ll continue to update this post as new applications are launched on Sei so please check back often!
