How to Import MetaMask into Phantom Wallet: A Step-by-Step Guide

Phantom has emerged as a big time player in the Web3 non-custodial wallet space.  It’s a multichain crypto wallet that’s easy to use both on desktop and with the mobile app.  Phantom enables users to manage their Solana, Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Polygon assets in one feature rich location.  Many active crypto users, myself included, have made the switch from MetaMask to Phantom as their primary Web3 wallet.  In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to import MetaMask into your Phantom Wallet.  They’ve made the process simple as we’ll show you in the steps below so let’s get started.

Steps to Import Your MetaMask Accounts into Phantom Wallet

Steps on how to import your MetaMask wallets into a Phantom wallet and manage all your crypto assets in one place.

We’ll assume you’ve installed Phantom wallet and are ready to import $ETH from an old MetaMask wallet.   Simply follow the steps below to streamline your crypto experience.

Step 1: Open Your Phantom Wallet to Begin the MetaMask Import Process

Inside your Phantom wallet, look for the MetaMask Import accounts banner.

First, open your Phantom Wallet extension or app and login.  Look for the “Import your MetaMask accounts to do everything in one wallet” banner in Phantom. If you don’t see it, you can:

• Click on the Profile icon in the top-left corner
• Click on “Settings” > “Manage Accounts”
• Select “Add/Connect Wallet”
• Choose “Import Secret Recovery Phrase”

Step 2: Enter Your MetaMask Wallet Secret Recovery Phrase

Enter the Secret Recovery Phrase of the MetaMask wallet you are importing into your Phantom wallet.

• You’ll be prompted to enter your 12 or 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase from the MetaMask wallet your are importing into Phantom.

Step 3: Confirm the MetaMask Account and Import to Phantom Wallet

Phantom wallet will scan to find active MetaMask accounts based on the Secret Recovery Phrase entered. Click the “Continue” button to Import your MetaMask accounts.

• After entering your MetaMask recovery phrase, click “Import Wallet”.
• Phantom will scan for accounts with activity.
• Select the account you wish to import and click “Continue”.
• Once completed, click “Get Started” to begin using your imported MetaMask wallet in Phantom.

Verifying the MetaMask Import to Phantom

Check both MetaMask and your Phantom wallets to verify success of the Import.

The final step is to ensure the import was successful:

1. Open your Phantom Wallet and confirm the $ETH (or whatever crypto you’re importing) matches your MetaMask wallet.

• Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase with anyone.  It’s the key to your wallet.
• Store your Web3 wallet Secret Recovery Phrase it in multiple physical locations (not digitally).
